Frosted Film

Here’s some more information about the Frosted Film we can offer you.

An introduction to Frosted Film

Frosted Film is one of those products where the result speaks for itself. Whether it’s a bathroom window, an office partition, or a front door that’s a bit too see-through, frosted film gives you clean, all-day privacy without losing natural light.

It’s one of the services we install most frequently. Unlike reflective solar films that rely on daylight to create a privacy effect, frosted film works around the clock — day and night, lights on or off.

We mainly provide Frosted Film Installation across Essex, London, south Suffolk and the Hertfordshire border. However, wherever you’re based in England, contact us and we’ll always try to make the job work for you.

Frosted Film Installation

An aesthetic solution for privacy and style:

Most people come to us for frosted film because of how it looks, not because of technical performance figures. That’s what makes it different from solar film — it’s primarily an aesthetic product. The right frosted film can completely change the feel of a room, adding a clean, modern finish to any glass surface.

Our customers typically choose frosted film to:

  • add privacy to bathrooms, shower screens, and en-suites
  • create separation in open-plan offices and meeting rooms
  • cover glass front doors and sidelights
  • give older windows a refreshed, contemporary look
  • meet building regulations where manifestation markings are required

Frosted Film is suitable for both residential and commercial properties and can be installed on most existing windows, doors, and glass partitions.

What we install

Different materials, different applications

Not all frosted films are the same. There are two main categories we work with, and understanding the difference matters when it comes to longevity, appearance, and what the film is being used for.

Frosted Vinyl:

This is what most people picture when they think of frosted film. Products like Opal Frost and Silver Etch fall into this category. Frosted vinyl has a paper backing, making the installation process quite different from standard polyester window films — the material is more malleable, which means it needs careful handling to avoid creasing.

The finish is clean and consistent, and it works well on both internal and external glass. Frosted vinyls carry a 4-year warranty for both internal and external installations. We source our vinyls mainly from Opalux and Metamark — two suppliers we’ve worked with long enough to trust the consistency of their materials.

Acid Etch Film (Polyester-based):

Acid etch films are a step up in terms of durability and finish. These are polyester-based rather than vinyl, giving them a slightly different texture and a longer lifespan. They’re available in a range of colours beyond the standard white frost, which makes them a popular choice for commercial spaces and higher-end residential projects.

Internal installations carry a warranty of up to 10 years.

Matte Solar Film:

If you want the frosted aesthetic but also need solar control — heat reduction, UV protection, glare reduction — matte solar film is the answer. It gives a similar soft, non-reflective appearance while delivering performance figures closer to a product like Silver 20. This isn’t something we install as often, but it’s a good option when the space needs to do more than just look private.

Manifestations and Frosted Dots

Compliance and design

We install frosted dot patterns and manifestation markings for commercial and residential properties. These are often required by building regulations on full-height glazing to prevent people from walking into glass.

Graphics and cutouts

We’re not a print company. We can supply and install standard manifestation patterns without any issue, but for printed graphics or intricate custom cutouts, a lot depends on the manufacturing quality. We’ll always be upfront about whether a job is something we’re confident delivering to a high standard.

FAQ'S

These are our most Frequently Asked Questions relating to Frosted film installation.

Yes. Unlike reflective or solar films, frosted film works in both directions at all times. Whether it’s day or night, lights on or off, the glass remains obscured. This is one of the main reasons people choose frosted over one-way mirror film.

It depends on the material. Frosted vinyl carries a 4-year warranty for both internal and external installations. Polyester-based acid etch films can last significantly longer, with internal warranties of up to 10 years. In practice, well-maintained installations often outlast their warranty periods.

Yes. Frosted film isn’t permanent. Vinyl-based films are generally easier to remove than polyester films, though either can be taken off without damaging the glass. We’d always recommend having removal done professionally to avoid leaving residue.

Yes. Frosted film can be installed on single, double, or triple-glazed windows. Unlike some solar films that can cause heat build-up between panes, frosted vinyl and acid etch films don’t carry the same thermal stress risks, making them safe for most glazing types.

We install standard frosted dot patterns and manifestation markings as part of our regular service. For printed frosted designs or complex custom cutouts, we assess each request individually — the quality of the final result depends heavily on the manufacturing process, and we’ll always be honest about whether we can deliver it to the standard we’re happy with.
