Privacy Film installation Purleigh

Privacy Film installation Purleigh

Customer pain points: New tenants moving into the building opposite, felt as though their day to day life would now be exposed.

Solution: Silver 20 Solar Film, Opal Frosted Film

Where the job took place

This job took place in Purleigh, Essex, at a residential property who’s owners had decided to move into the rental business for a bit of extra cash.

Purleigh is a small village near Maldon, Essex. It has a tight knit community who help each other out. They regularly run fates in the summer months at Purleigh playing field, and volunteers also help to run and support the Purleigh community shop.

It is also Famous for its 120 acres of british vineyards owned by New hall Wine Estate.

The problem: New tenants moving in shortly

There were two major issues. Firstly, the windows on the tenants building were facing the owners building, giving them a direct line of sight into their lives. The other issue was the huge glass gables on the owners side, these left the whole landing and upper hallway practically exposed. The glass being very translucent made the task of spying even easier, obviously the previous owners hadn’t been concerned about privacy within a gated property.

Blinds were discussed, but this would not be effective at tackling nosy tenants on their side. And on their home, they wanted something that was still going to preserve some natural light from coming through, so they wouldn’t have to live behind blinds all day

They contacted us looking for a privacy film installation that would restore that sense of comfort, whilst looking stylish also.

The initial visit

Our first visit was to tackle the issue on the tenants side.

The customer knew they wanted 24/7 privacy on this end, so Frosted Film seemed like the obvious option. However, they didn’t want to block the tenants’ vision completely, as this seemed unfair. So they went for a partial frosting, that would stop them from looking down into their property, unless they were really trying.

After some discussion over Frosted Film options, we landed on Opal Frosted. This provides an almost translucent effect from the outside, but an almost matte white look from the inside. We agreed that this suited the space quite well, and that it would solve their issues.

The job wasn’t as straightforward as we would’ve liked, as tight spaces behind the worktop made cutting arduous. However, we still cracked on in a timely, professional, clean manner. The film was trimmed parallel with the glazing bars, and now the customers had a stylish solution to half of their issues.

Choosing the right solution for their home

Following the initial installation, the customer was confident in our ability, and was happy to discuss the solution for their home.

The customer knew what they wanted, and that was our Silver 20 reflective Solar Film. This Film provides excellent daytime privacy, creating a one way mirrored effect for those trying to look in. Not only this, but massive glazing like this can let in loads of glare, heat, as well as UV rays.

Our Silver 20 Solar Film would insure:

  • Furniture and flooring would be protected from UV rays.
  • Solar heat gain would be reduced by up to 80% lowering aircon bills during the summer.
  • They would no longer be blinded by that low lying winter sun with up to an 80% glare reduction.
  • Their privacy problems would be solved during the daytime.

A more challenging installation than most

This installation in Purleigh came with a few challenges that are worth mentioning.

Some of the windows were positioned at high level, meaning safe access was required. To carry out the work properly, we had to erect a tower during the installation. This was time consuming, and had to be done carefully, as it had to be placed on a staircase.

There were also:

  • tight areas that were difficult to access
  • awkward angles where cutting had to be done carefully
  • wooden window frames that weren’t perfectly straight
  • uneven seals that made trimming more difficult than usual

On some of the windows, the edging around the frames was so uneven, that it had to be cut with a ruler in order to leave a straight professional finish.

The main thing is that we took our time. Rushing a job never gets you anywhere, by taking our time we was able to get the desired outcome, without damaging anything in the owners home.

Erecting a tower in Purleigh, Essex

The result

Once both the Silver 20 and Opal Frosted installations were completed, the difference was immediately noticeable.

Both Houses still felt bright and open.

The Silver 20 Solar Film provided strong daytime privacy where views mattered, while the Opal Frosted Film gave consistent privacy for the customers.

The customer was over the moon, now they could safely invite their new tenants in, without having to worry about feeling exposed.

A common issue in villages like Purleigh

Privacy concerns like this are becoming more common in Purleigh and surrounding parts of Essex.

Buildings with large glass gables like this, have become much more fashionable over the last few years. Meaning more and more customers are changing their mind about how much Privacy they want.

Things like blinds can be extremely expensive as high access areas often need electric blinds. Not only to mention the fact that the windows are often strange shapes and sizes, making it even harder to acheive

Aftercare and expectations

After installation, we explained what the customer could expect during the curing period.

It’s normal for:

  • small water bubbles
  • light haziness
  • slight visual changes

These settle naturally as the film cures.

We also provided aftercare advice covering:

  • when it’s safe to clean the windows
  • which products to avoid
  • how to maintain the finish long-term

Once cured, both Silver 20 and Opal Frosted Film require very little maintenance.
