Why dual reflective films are so popular

Dual reflective 25 chelmsford

Most conservatories have the same problem. They’re too hot in summer, too bright to sit in comfortably, and the furniture fades from UV exposure. By mid-morning, the room is unusable.

Dual reflective films fix all three problems without making the room feel dark. This week alone, we installed it on three conservatories — and every customer noticed an immediate difference.

Why I like dual reflective 25?

Dual reflective 25 is a solar control window film with a subtle reflective finish on the outside and a neutral tone on the inside. The key numbers:

  • 68% total solar energy rejection – blocks over two-thirds of the sun’s heat before it enters the room
  • 99% UV protection – prevents fading on furniture, flooring, and soft furnishings
  • Significant glare reduction – no more squinting or screen washout
  • Natural light preserved – the room still feels bright and open, unlike darker films

It’s the sweet spot for conservatories: strong heat performance without making the space feel depressing.

For comparison, dual reflective 18 offers 78% heat rejection but lets in less visible light — better suited to south-facing rooms where maximum heat blocking is the priority. DR25 is what we recommend for spaces where you still want that bright, airy feel.

Three Conservatories, Three Happy Customers

Battersea, London — 17 Ceiling Panels

The biggest job of the week. A full conservatory roof — 17 ceiling panels, all in dual reflective 25. Ceiling panels are the most critical part because that’s where the direct overhead sun hits hardest.

Nine hours on site with a two-man team to get every panel fitted. The customer noticed the temperature difference before we’d even finished the last pane.

Chelmsford, Essex — Heat and Glare

A conservatory that was getting unbearable by late morning. The customer wanted to actually use the space as a living room rather than abandoning it from April to September. Dual reflective 25 across all the glazing — immediate reduction in heat and glare while keeping the room bright.

Ongar, Essex — Same Problem, Same Solution

Another conservatory rendered useless by direct sun. Same approach: half coverage in dual reflective 25. Same result: a usable room that still feels light and open.

What Our Customers Say

“We had solar film installed in our conservatory by George, and the whole experience was really smooth from start to finish. He took the time to explain everything clearly and helped us choose the right film to get the level of sun protection we needed. We’re super happy with how it turned out and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend George and his team!”

“Thrilled with our conservatory windows transformation, really professional and friendly, would highly recommend to anyone interested in the work.”

Why Conservatories Need Solar Film

Conservatories are designed to let light in — but that same glass lets in solar heat and UV radiation with nothing to stop it. The result:

  • Summer heat — temperatures 10-15°C higher than the rest of the house
  • Glare — TV screens washed out, can’t read, constant squinting
  • UV fading — furniture, blinds, flooring all degrading faster than in any other room

Blinds and curtains block light but don’t reject heat — the heat is already inside once it passes through the glass. Solar film rejects it at the glass surface before it enters the room.

Dual reflective 25 keeps 68% of solar energy out while maintaining the bright, open conservatory feel that drew you to the room in the first place.

How dark can you go?

When it comes to dual reflective films, you can go real dark.

Recently I installed dual reflective 09 to a flat in Chelmsford. The customer had a serious heat problem, in the summer the margarine would melt on the side within minutes because of how hot it got.

This film gives you an 85% total solar energy reduction, but it’s mainly for emergencies. In my opinion it’s too dark and can make the space look like a cave, which is the last thing you want.

Is a Dual Reflective film Right for Your Conservatory?

If your conservatory ticks any of these boxes, DR25 is likely the right film:

  • Too hot to use in summer (April–September)
  • Furniture or flooring fading from sun exposure
  • Glare making screens or reading difficult
  • Clear glass or polycarbonate roofs that are catalysts for heat

If heat is extreme and you’re willing to accept a slightly darker look, dual reflective 18 gives 78% heat rejection — better for south-facing glass walls that take direct sun all day.
